Default Why is the flac ext. used, whats the best way to convert it

Hey guys I am not familiar with the flac extension.
First off Why is it used
Second how can I convert it to shn
Or whats the easiest way to put it into my ipod

I know I'm probably a moron for not knowing this but I'm new to all this.

Thanks,

FLAC is superior to SHN in that it's lossless but has better compression than SHN(around 15% better) it also can be searched(fast forwarded through the track) many SHN's don't do that.

FlACs also have more support amongst media players and burning software.

Traders Little Helper can convert FLAC to WAV/SHN

I use "Burrn" to put them on CD. Small and fast program, freeware.

Default Whats the best way to put flac files on Itunes

Whats the best way put these files on my Ipod or on Itunes its seems as though my itunes won't accept these files. I would hate to downgrade the file to shn. What would you guys recommend?

Ipod is only going to accept MP3/WAV/ or AAC...at least that's all I think mine does. But I have one of the first Generation.

What I do is convert to WAV using traders little helper, then import into the iTunes library. From there right-click each track and hit 'Convert To ACC or M4A'. If you put the WAV files on your ipod, it takes up too much room, thats why you convert to ACC.
