OH MAN WHERE DO I START! I'm shouting 'cause it's months later and I still get excitement from images going thru my head!
I saw the show in Montreal on the 21st of Sept 2006 at the Bell Center.
The show started with 16,254 roaring and extatic fans giving Roger a standing ovation as he stood on the stage with one arm in the air and a closed fist to share his synergy with the crowd and the night erupted with In The Flesh and a stream of fireworks on stage from the ceiling down and from the floor upwards. The tone for the evening was set!
Images of Syd Barrett during Shine On You Crazy Diamond, the light show during Have A Cigar, the crowd singing along to Wish You Were Here: the whole thing was overwhelming.
A 20 foot inflateable cosmonaut floated overhead during Perfect Sense whereas confetti snowed from overhead and a dirigible 30 foot inflateable pink pig made it's way over the crowd during Sheep!!!! The crowd was delirious!!!!
Roger and band performed Leaving Beirut which was accompanied by a comic strip type story of Rogers adventure in Lebanon when his car broke down and he was taken in by an arab couple who barely had enough for themselves yet Roger was treated like a prince. His disdain for war was clearly evident in the song. I still get teary eyed for the poor unfortunate families.
15 minute break and not too soon because the crowd was really getting into it and IT WAS LOUD!!!
Second half started with On The Run with images going 100 miles an hour which was enough to give any middle aged man who had drank 4 or 5 beers during the show or breathed deeply the permanent odor of dope a heart attack!
A poignant part of the show had to be Carol (?) do the crystal clear vocals to a tee from at the end of Great Gig In The Sky. All around us you can hear people screaming HOLY SHIT....HOLY SHIT...HOLY SHIT. I had tears and just about did it in my pants! In fact as I'm writing this I'm getting shivers!
It went on and on like good sex to an explosive climax when he came back on stage and did Another Brick In The Wall amongst others.
There was some pre-recorded stuff with what, at times, seemed like Roger lip synced songs. But I ain't complaining one bit because it was my first opportunity to see anything related to Pink Floyd Live and nobody either because the entire evening turned out to be a spectacle etched into our synapses for ever!
The music of Pink Floyd triumphed thursday night and I was a part of it!!!!
