Default Snowy White and the 77 Tour

Other than his solo on POTW pt 2 and the final encore at Montreal, what "feature" parts did Snowy have for the '77 concerts? Something where he played the same role, in the same song, each night - any leads or solos? I'm trying to pick him out on some recordings, but wasn't quite sure if I was hearing him or not.

Did he play a Gibson LP the entire tour?

I'm pretty sure he played a Gibson LP the entire tour as that is pretty much all he uses(although in Waters 2002 Tour he did play a Strat some but I heard that was more of my by Waters request than anything else). I can pick him out on many of the 77 ROIO's as his style is far more "text book blues" than Gilmour.

Easiest place to notice him is on Dogs for instance they are doing guitar duets so to speak.

On the subject of LP's I think they are the most overrated guitar ever made. But that's off subject I suppose. LOL

Based on online reports:

Sheep: bass (Roger is also on bass)
Dogs: Guitar
Pigs (3 different ones): Bass (Roger played rhythm guitar on the black Strat)
Pigs on the Wing (Part 2): Guitar Solo

Shine On: Guitar
Welcome to the Machine: Guitar
Have a Cigar: Guitar solos, Dave played rhythm guitar
Wish You Were Here: Acoustic guitar
Shine On: Guitar

Money and Us & Them: Guitar

So Pigs on the Wing 2 and Have a Cigar is where he's most evident.

I've seen very, very few pictures from this tour, and even fewer with Snowy in the frame, but as far as I know he played only his Goldtop Les Paul and an Ovation Acoustic, plus bass (probably a Fender Precision, but that's just a guess).

I will say that the shows from this era are a mixed bag for me. Absolutely stunning guitar work from Dave, and the songs themselves are performed with a real energy that I haven't heard from Floyd before or since. But the mixes are generally poor. Vocally, Dave and Roger don't blend well at all, and I don't think Rick's keyboard sounds that great either.

Some of this might be due to the quad sound system they were using, with many of the parts panned pretty drastically, and in some cases you can hear parts being panned as they get louder and softer depending on where the taper was located.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to listen more closely next time with these things in mind.

I pretty much agree with the thoughts Randy said on the 77 shows, except my ears never had much of a problem with the keyboards.

As for LPs, seems like many of my guitar heros (Warren Haynes, Duane Allman, Peter Green, Neil Young) prefered them so that is good enough for me. Although there is an impressive list of Fender and Strat players. They both sound great, just depends who's hands it is in.
