Default Nockster's right

I must agree with Nockster, Baryburbs. Roger is limited in his musical songwriting ability. With the exception of Money, most of his music is like slow rap, a variation on 2 notes ... while any of PF's great songs the chord progressions were added by Dave (and some Rick). Even Mother ... great song, but musically it's 2 notes... without Dave's piece, boring ... like Pigs on the wing. Daves numbers have alot more variation, although he's limited to about 6 - 8 chords. Still 3 times the music as Roger.

Probably not a very competent bass player (even the bass on Sheep from the Animals LP was played by Dave, not to mention the second bass on One Of These Days from Meddle) – BUT he managed to sound like nobody else did. In fact he is my favourite bass player, though not technically speaking half as good as say Jack Bruce or Jack Cassady for example.
By the way I was a bass player in a rock band for over 12 years...

From a technical standpoint he's an average bassist. However he does have a unique style and sound and I think that's very important for a bassist to have. Bass is largely about showing personality and he does.

With that said his lyrical and songwriting abilities far outshine his bass playing ability.
