This is with all windows machines and isn't really related to what kind of browser you are using.
The chance you get infected using IE instead of FireFox or Opera, is about 50% higher... and you don't have to do anything for it.. just visiting websites that has an hidden agenda...
I would recommend a good virusscanner.. like eset nod32. It's light, it's cheap, and it is good...
I would also recommend that you use tune-up utillities 2008, with those two combined.. it's very hard to get infected...

With which operating systems does tune-up utilities 2008 work? I checked out their web site but didn't see any specific info concerning this.
