Default Is it possible...

Is it possible that I got spyware or adware on my computer from this site? Something is definately wrong with my computer and something weird happened when I was downloading the other day.

When clicking on a song for download, I got a message from Norton saying something like webenhancer something-or-other and internet explorer instantly closed on me. I then opened everything back up and downloaded the show.

I ran Norton afterwards and it did find some adware type stuff which I "fixed", but something is still on my computer that is making it act all funny. Sometimes now when I open internet explorer immediately get a message saying the program has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Just wondering if anything related to this site could be the cause?

It's pretty much impossible to get them from FLAC/SHN/MP3 files which are not executable. Now, you can get spyware/adware from websites, especially if using IE, but seeing as none of the other regular visitors have gotten said adware/spyware I'd say the chances you got it here are pretty much nil.

Hello nebish:

I've seems unlikely, although not impossible, that you got a virus from downloading one of the shows. I would make sure you are running the most updated version of Internet Explorer V7 or any updated version of whatever browser you are using.

Highly unlikely from non-executables. Always best to scan everything as SOP just to make sure though.

It sounds like it was something that hit my IE not related to the download. I might start using some other browser.

You know, if you have a freshly installed computer and don't have any virusscanner on it, or crap like norton... and if you are directly connected to the internet with e.g. cable or dsl, the chance that within the first 5 minutes you are running your computer, you will be infected with at least 12 different kinds of spy/mallware or virii, is more than 60%?
This is with all windows machines and isn't really related to what kind of browser you are using.
The chance you get infected using IE instead of FireFox or Opera, is about 50% higher... and you don't have to do anything for it.. just visiting websites that has an hidden agenda...

I would recommend a good virusscanner.. like eset nod32. It's light, it's cheap, and it is good...
I would also recommend that you use tune-up utillities 2008, with those two combined.. it's very hard to get infected...
