Default Pink Floyd Syd Barrett Experience

Like a lot of Pink Floyd fans the first album I ever heard was Darkside of the Moon. I first heart this in 1989 (I was only 10 or so) but I immediately took to it. After that each year my Dad would buy me a Pink Floyd album and eventually I had them all.

I remember hearing my first Syd Barret sounding album when I finally got my hands on The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. After the first time I heard Astronomy Domine

I was completely hooked. I think Syd Barret is one of the musicians that will go down in history as extremely influential. The psychedelic sound that he help create is a great time in music history.

I love playing Syd songs with my guitar it truly brings me back a few years. Probably my favorite Syd Barrett song to play on my guitar is Dominoes.

I have the pink floyd and syd barret story on dvd and I must say that the first time I saw it I was a bit disapointed. The DVD doesnt go into deep detail at all. Its basically just the four remaining members sitting around talking about what he was like when he was younger. They talk about how he slowly went mad due to drugs and some mental health issues. I bought it thinking there might be more footage of him when he was young and maybe some live interviews or somethin. The beginning of the dvd is really cool though. Its of early pink floyd playing at a show and they are just starting to experiment with light effects and stuff. The effects they were able to create using what they had were impressive I must say. Another part in the dvd they go to a flat where syd was living and they talk about how he painted the floor but he painted himself in. Thats funny. They guy he was living with in the flat says that he would sometimes think that Syds thought was that while he lay in his room and do nothing his possibilities and potential were endless. But the second he made a decision on something to do he was limiting his possibilites. So sometimes he probably felt like laying in his room forever. Kind of an interesting take on life.

It is a shame, to waste such a talent, I am not so much into the psychedelic stuff from the Floyd, but I do rather enjoy songs like Domino and Terripin
