Default Pink Floyd Experience

This is my 1st post ever, I mean in my life. I have been a raving Floyd fan for...I guess..20 years. Geez, that makes me feel old to write that. Like most, I 1st got turned on to the wall when I was about 16...1986.

I soon sought out all things Floyd. The 1st concert I attended was Water's Radio KAOS. Then, I went to Momentary Lapse in Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, and Cleveland area again. The shows made me even more a fan. I then went to only one Division Bell....work committments. The Division Bell was in Columbus, OH....Ohio Football stadium.

My favorite album is Meddle, but I most prefer ROIOs. The songs on ROIOs are most alive, most "real", and the most creative. I guess my least favorite would be Final Cut...however I still like it.

I do wish the boys would get together for one last swing. Gilmour is a fantastic artists in my mind...Division Bell is a very under-rated album. However, all props as genius still must go to Waters. I do also love Syd, RIP, and enjoy learning about all aspects of his life. His solo work is too haunting, and I can only listen to it in doses (no pun intended) as it puts me in a chaotic state.

Geez, what else can I say. I'm a normal guy, business person, have a wife, kids, and normal suburban duties. However, there is a side of me that likes nothing better than spending an evening listening to my Floyd, reliving the past, generating new ideas, and having a great experience. The side is not only dark as only occasionally is the sun eclipsed by the moon.

I agree with you... I wish they would all get back together for at least one more go 'round as well. Maybe even cut a new album. That would be awesome.

Roger is a lyrical genius, that's for sure, but I would also call Dave the musical genius of Floyd. Without him it just wouldn't have been the same. Not even close. Together they made an incredible team.

Keep on rockin' Alan, where ever you are.

I'm going to say they are BOTH musical geniuses and Roger just happens to be a lyrical genius as well. As I see Ca Ira, Amused To Death, and Pros and Cons are all masterful in their own right. Roger has a unique quality of being able to seamlessly weave music and lyrics like no one else.

They are obviously different but pink floyd wouldn't have sounded like Floyd without Roger. Music has been really different since he left and while many like it most will admit it's not their best stuff.

Hmmm... well, it's clear we have a bit of a difference of opinion here. Roger is a lyrical genius, yes, a theatrical genius, without doubt, but I don't consider any of his solo work to be as musically excellent as either Momentary Lapse or Division Bell. Or On An Island for that matter. Dave is the man who made the musical part of Floyd what it is imho. Don't want to split hairs here, but since you brought it up...

I don't agree that the music has been substantively different since Roger left. The lyrics have, most definitely, which is not to say they've been worse, just different, as Dave has a different temperament than Roger, but the music still has that Floyd sound, which is due in major part to Dave imho.

Concerning their best stuff, imo nothing but Animals is their absolute BEST stuff, as there can be only one best and that is completely subjective, although Momentary Lapse and Division Bell are as good as anything else they have done imho.

They are both incredibly talented men, each in their own right, and together they made one of the best teams, if not the best team in rock history.

Meh, we're just going to have to agree to disagree because I thought Momentary was pretty damn awful and Division Bell had it's moments but wasn't very interesting to me. Amused to Death is masterful and in my mind better than anything Floyd did post Waters.

But to each their own, if we all had the same tastes it'd be a dreadfully boring world.

But for the record Division Bell and Momentary don't sound anything like Floyd IMO anyways, at least not post Dark side Floyd.

I agree that we will have to agree to disagree. I suppose the only other course open to us would be to go out into the parking lot and beat the crap out of each other, and that wouldn't really settle anything anyway. LOL... Have another beer! I offer a toast to you and your opinion. Long may you both live!

Go and beat the crap out of each other? No, I'm not a cave man we'll just have a beer discuss the flabbergastingly intricate nuances of both mens music. LOL Or rather something else, because really I've grown to dislike circular arguments. LOL

I didn't mean for you to take that literally, you know. Just a joke... a way of saying exactly what you said... it's a circular argument 'cause it's a matter of personal tastes, and in a case like that there is no absolute. It's just a matter of who likes what.

We could always do the 'Dave is better, Roger is better, Dave, Roger, Dave, Roger, Dave, Roger, is, isn't, is, isn't, is, isn't' thing for awhile... LOL...
