hi,
I first got into the floyd in my junior year of high school. I first listened to the Wall and then Wish you were here. My first Floyd album (yea albums) was 'The Wall', I was known in school as a lover of FLoyd, They were in my car, plastered on my walls in my room, I even started to learn guitar and bought one just like David's. I won my first and ONLY radio station contest (the kind where you have to be caller number _) during the song "Welcome To The Machine" on WHCN Hartford Ct. I was always a loser on those stupid call ins.
I was fortunate enough to be able to see both roger and david on their first solo tours. I went to each of their shows both nights in my area. They were just a dream come true. On the second night of Rogers 'Radio Kaos' tour I had gone to the concert without tickets. Me and my friend did and well me being the cheapskate I am, waited around and had a scalper that wanted way too much but they were floor seats. My friend opted for the next guy who sold them to him for like $20 above the face value and I said go ahead go in, I will get one. He offered to buy me it and I said no.....so I knew where he was and then the show started. I spotted the guy who had the 10th row floor seats and I went up to him and offered him $10...he said 'yea, right', I said look the show has started, nobody is going to buy them, I will give you $10 and at least you get something for them. YOu already made money tonight, he thought for a second, another guy , who knew I was asking, yelled to me, and so I looked at the guy with the floor seat and said "I'm going in, either you get something for it, or I buy his"......I ended up on the floor, pratically pissing in my pants. So I am there for a couple of songs, now I am thinking, this sucks. I am not with my friend but I can see him....and he saw me when I got in .....so I start to walk towards the stage to leave and go up with him. Its easier for me to go to him than for him to get onto the floor....the moment I do, he tells the crowd to come forward...well, I was right at the front row when that was said, I run and I am at the guys feet!!!!! oh my.......I had an unbeliveable night....all by myself, but right smack in front of Roger. That was nice to see.
When i had my first child it turned out to be a boy and so we named him 'barrett pink ' after....well need i say anymore.
When I went into the hospital to visit, I would take my guitar, well I took it out the first time he came into the room and I played welcome to the machine, that kid of mine turned his little head and faced me while I sang that song to him. Amazed me and my wife.
Now later on it life me and my wife were able to see Roger when he came by for the 'in the flesh' tour. I have to say that that was the best concert I have ever been to. Me and my wife agreed that that was the best ever. At the end of the show, our seats were on the right of the stage, so when he came off I was leaning over the railing sorta to the side of him but not very far and I said to him "thank you Roger" jand he looked up and smiled and waved right to me. Everyone that was hanging around there just looked at me like stunned.....I guess because I said thank you in such a sincere tone, we had just been blown away at how happy he was to be there and the such good show he put on.
I just recently found the wonderful world of Pink Floyd Dvd's.....I am having such a blast being able to see the band I love in all the different periods of there existence. My daughter is a full fledged fan and will be going to see him when he comes to Tampa and West Palm Beach in May. We are such fans of floyd and hope to be able to see them reunite again. Talking about that, the day that they got back together for the Live 8, I had tears of joy seeing those 4 on stage together playing, laughing, acting like an ass(roger swaying his hands) and then seeing Dave sorta copy him....they made me feel stupid human again. That it was aright. The world is ok, everything will be alright.......boy did that make me hope.....but anyhow, the feeling of them up there, performing and doing what they collectively do best, WAS AWESOME.
