The Final cut? Good or Bad?
I have heard that this album is combarable to AMLOR only with roger style songs instead. So my question is, is this album good or bad? or excellent or ok?

The only thing the same about these albums are they are basically dolled up solo albums under the name Pink Floyd.
Roger majorly wrote this album, as Dave wrote most of AMLoR. If you like The Wall, you'll probably like The Final Cut. I know I like it.. its a good album.. mostly lyrically. Musically.. its not great.

The Final Cut ranks as probably one of the most depressing albums ever made. That said, it also ranks as one of the best anti-war albums ever made, and easily the best single piece of work Roger Waters has done. A lot of Floyd fans dismiss this album because it is so depressing, and apart from "Not Now John" lacks any real rocker of a tune. That's too bad, because this is music from the heart and soul. Make no mistake, this is a Waters project with the Floyd moniker. If you like arena rockers, then AMLOR is the album you want (a Gilmour project with the Floyd monker!). If you want an album that will hit you just as hard, but in a different way, then check out The Final Cut.

I think it's an underrated album and the guitar solo on Fletcher is definitely a standout point.
I guess there wasn't room for more Gilmour as Roger had really started to flex his muscles at this point and it does sound very much like a solo album - as it says on the cover "A requiem for the post war dream by Roger Waters performed by Pink Floyd"
It's very much in the tone of The Pros And Cons Of Hitch Hiking, which is my favourite Waters' album.

I think it's probably better than Radio KAOS, which I absolutely loved when it came out but doesn't do a lot for me now.

I'm inclined to agree about KAOS. I loved it when it first came out, and played it more than AMLOR. Musically, it's not bad, but it just seems half finished. The concept never seems fully developed. I suspect Waters rushed it out to have an album to tour with, since his old mates were riding high with AMLOR and their tour. Still, what's good is very good (particularly "Home" and "The Tide Is Turning"). One thing I found in listening to it again after 10 years or so was that "Home" is, unfortunately, rather topical again. Too bad we can't say the same about "The Tide Is Turning".

The thing about not having a lot of Gilmour solos you have to remember what was happening at the time. Roger was totally taking over the band. Check ou the credits:
"Music and Lyrics by: Roger Waters
"Performed by: Pink Floyd" .... wha!?!?!??
From the interviews i've read and heard from Dave Gilmour.. Dave and Roger were only in the studio at the same time *one* time through-out the recording of the album. Dave only came into the studio three times to record some basic material and that is it. Its also obvious.. the album really lacks musicial talent. The songs are extremly basic and easy to play. But the lyrics are very good...

After listening to The Wall a zillion time, I was just happy for anything new really and The Final Cut was it. I still like it -- a couple decent songs with some hot Dave solos. Thanks to this community, I was able to listen to Final Cutting Demos boot. The guys really polished up the album in comparison, especially on Not Now John. My faves are Your Possible Pasts, Not Now John, GYFHOMD / Fletcher's Memorial Home, The Gunner's Dream, and The Heroes Return.
