Default How did you discover your love for Pink Floyd?

One of my uncles introduced me to their music some years ago, how did you discover the band?

My Dad had a tape of A Few Good Dance Songs and I use to play One of these days on our stereo in the living room, because when I played it... it seemed louder than other tapes for some reason. And i'd love to just slam it... to piss off our old crusty neighbor.

One day when I was going to school in the morning (I use to always listen to music on the way) I couldn't find any of my tapes.. and I borrowed my Dad's A Few Good Dance Songs. I listened to them all and I really liked the "effects" in the songs. So for the next week I would just listen to A Few Good Dance Songs.

My Dad asked me what I was listening to... and I fold him Pink Floyd. He thought that was really cool that I was listening to Floyd at 8 years old. He went out that same day and bought me Darkside of the Moon, Animals, and The Wall. Ya know.. the typical big hit albums, which I completely just ate up.

I then got Wish You Were Here, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, A Saucreful of Secrets etc... Finally some years down the road got Division Bell and that is how it all began.

the wall came out as my music tastes were beginning to form and of course at that time "another brick in the wall pt 2" was a classic for kids my age, as a kid how could you not love anyway screaming "we don't need no education"
my first floyd i think was the 12" josh speaks of, still have it, "a collection of great dance songs". as i aged discovered WYWH, darkside and the early stuff with syd.

great to be considered or even mentioned with "younger floyd fans" (i'm 37)
can't speak for others, but for me my guess would be that that release was cheap at the time, being just an ep (have it on vinyl!) whereas the wall was a two-record set and much more expensive. remember going to Cavages (long since gone, modern equivalent would be something like FYE) to have my parents get me that.

Saw "The Wall" in the theater. Had nightmares for a few days, but felt that this band was something special. Then heard DSofTM...there you go

I started listening to them around the late 70s...one of the few bands I can say I never lost interest in as the years went on...
