I do like Dave Gilmour's guitarwork a lot ....... I actually was lucky enough to see him as part of The Who @ Hyde Park in 1996 ....... My favourite Pink Floyd track is "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" ....... GREAT "atmospheric" guitar in that one .... Regards to all ... Bingomusic.

Default Gilmour -- so unique and classy

Hi all. This is my first post here. Just discovered all the forums and d/l's, which is pretty exciting.

I agree DG is one of the finest electric rock players of all time. Like someone else mentioned, Steve Howe (another favorite) is a more technical pplayer, with great range of styles such as jazz, classical, ragtime, Chet etc and he really know his theory .....but for the past 25 years that I have listened to PF, Gilmour has always been the guy with the greatest over all sound. PErfectly warm and sustaining tone, complete control of his vibrato, very very melodic in a bluesy minor sort of way, and his solos are so well contructed and memorable. There are not many guys you can sing along with the solo as if it were a vocal line. Certainly not Pages stuff, and as truthful and incredible Jimi Hendtrix and Clapton are,
there solos are not the self contained songs that Gilmour's are.
At the risk of getting kicked off forum.....Neil Schon from Journey is also one of the guys that compose solos that are melodic and memorable....

Plus...ya gotta consider Gilmour's voice.....truly one of the most unique and haunting in rock history.

Snyhow, my vote....2 thumbs up for DAvid

cheers....look forward to reading and posting

In my mind he is the greatest guitarist of all time although I love Hendrix, Page and other guitarists David Gilmour has something no has and it doesnt matter that his not the most technical player because he doesnt need to be.
his playing is amazing no one can deny that.
