Default Dave Gilmour - One of the best guitarists

Dave Gilmour will go down in history as one of the best guitar players in history. Every since I heard Darkside of the Moon, and Shine On You Crazy Diamond I was hooked as I kid.

I was able to listen to his music with my eyes closed in 3D. I could see the notes going up and down, left and right. It was truly a psychedelic experience.

I am very happy with his solo work especially On An Island, which I think is his best solo work so far.

Talking

Deffinatly, there is that sense of such control in his playing. His style may not be everyones taste but I do agree he deserves to be up there. For me, Marooned is my absolute example of Dave's best playing.

Any other thoughts anyone?

You know I always forget that song, and its one of my favorites. Marooned is an awesome song, it reminds me of a few songs on Dave's On An Island album.

Default Gilmour- one of the most influential guitarists

This is a topic that can be debated forever. I must say that while he is not the most talented guitarists in the traditional sense, he is still my all-time favorite. I have seen Hendrix in concert, Clapton with Cream, Steve Morse, and all the greats, but David Gilmour has done more to influence the sound of the guitar over 3 decades than anyone else. With Gilmour, every note is important... every sound is executed with perfection ... and even the tie or space between notes is given the upmost care. His lead solos cover the whole fretboard and seem to be inspired in heaven. While I love almost everything he has played, some of my favorites are The Blue, Money, Dogs and Raise my Rent.

Default Certainly

Certainly he's not the most technical guitar player i know, there are much better guitar players like Steve Howe from Yes. But the discussion must be about the way he plays his notes, how he's express his feelings and how he's using the spaces between the notes. His solo's are giving a kind of peaceful feeling, and that's the point why he is one of my favorit musicians. And yes i think his album "On an island" is his best work until now.
