Some love the Waterless Floyd. Count me among those. It's different in some ways, yes, but still great. It still has that Floyd sound, just less anger. I like the Waterless Floyd albums better than any of Roger's solo stuff. 'Amused To Death' is a great album, but it's nowhere near either 'Momentary Lapse' or 'Division Bell' musically, imho.
And I have to agree with Nockster... if Roger worked and played better with others and his ego hadn't ballooned up like some giant mutant blowfish I think Floyd would still be crankin' 'em out today.

I think regardless of how well he got along with the others the split would have happened. I mean he hated playing Stadiums...if he stayed in Floyd that would have been necessary. I also think he wanted more ability/freedom to say what he wanted without being forced to dumb it down a little bit so he wouldn't alienate floyd fans(this pressure would've came from the label. It's inevitable that the split would have had to happen.

Well, it's all speculation at this point anyway. Maybe so, maybe not. Floyd has only put out two albums of new material since he left so I think he could have done his solo stuff on the side without much trouble. And I know he professes to hate stadium gigs, but I've seen his solo act a couple times and it's always been at a venue which holds 20,000+, so I wouldn't call that a very intimate setting. And I don't think the Waterless Floyd has been dumbed down at all. I think Gilmour is a very insightful person and the later lyrics reflect that. He just has a different outlook on life than Roger. Anyway, like I said, it's all speculation now anyway.

Of course all speculation. I will say I think there's a big difference between a stadium of 90,000 and an Ampitheater that holds 20K, but really that's just me.
I have noticed he seems to like performing a lot better since he's gone solo than when he toured with Floyd, but then again it's years later. I do think he really wanted to do his own thing when he left Floyd.
I've never said Floyd was dumbed down with Dave. Although I will say the lyrics aren't even close to being as good. The music is different and not really to my liking but the numbers the albums have generated speak for themselves.

It's true there is a difference between 90k and 20k, although a 20k audience can be pretty rowdy as well. And he does seem to enjoy performing more now but it's difficult to know exactly why for certain... whether it's the smaller crowds or just the natural maturation process he has gone through as an individual.
I love Roger's lyrics, but I love Dave's as well. Kind of an apples and oranges thing really... oh wait, that was Syd... lol

Anyone ever hear that they wanted to issue a live album of the 77 tour and that every show was recorded by the band? Imagine the complete 1977 run off a soundboard. I'm sure there are all kinds of stuff in the vaults that will never see the light of day.

Roger has a lot of stuff but he's not releasing, at least not yet. We'll see it all eventually though it may be 30 or 40 years.

yes a good album
i too quite enjoy the punchier upbeat nature of this album. it is interesting to see its development in roios from 75 and 76 with various incarnations of 'raving and drooling' and 'youve got to be crazy'.
